Way Beyond Cakes by Mayen

It has been about two years since I started making cakes . And though I am happy with my progress, sometimes, I still get to thinking if this is really what I want to do in the long run. I always tell others to dream big, yet it is sometimes hard to just put all of me in one place.

Right now , I am still a stay at home mom to my two year old boy, and I am grateful for this opportunity that I have to be with him and see him grow before my eyes. In the coming months , this may change... hence, my little hesitation. I do have other passions... so, I guess, I will pray for more guidance on what to do :) I am not crossing the bridge yet...

If you have become a friend of mine through this caking journey, you may have noticed that I LOVE sharing my new discoveries to other newbies... and to help out in any way I can. Thankfully, I have been rewarded with so many friendships all over the world. I have seen so many people, moms and dads, grandparents...sons and daughters... try to get their hands busy with making cakes and have succeeded. Aside from the daily emails I get with questions and inquiries, I get a good volume of emails from people who have started businesses, parents who have made cakes for their kids..and kids who have made cakes for their parents. I always refer to these moments as my little treasures in life. We may never meet in person, but we have touched each others' lives in a special way.

e taking a caking sabbatical for the past months, I am back to making cakes again ! i have to admit it was a bit tough not to make cakes as many and as usual as before. But if people are trying to ask for riculously low prices for something so massive and detailed, I would have to decline, even if they are good acquaintances.

For all of you guys who have started making cakes, you KNOW how timeconsuming this is and how much actual work the total package takes. Baking and making the crumb coated cake is not even half the battle . It is the outside factor that sometimes spells if it will be a hit or not. So I take so much time making sure it does.

HOW TO START:

I ALWAYS get asked these questions-- WHY do I do this, HOW can I do this with a toddler at home, WHERE do I find the time to do it...

My answer is -- my attitude toward something I want to learn is always the same- I don't get discouraged easily. I already know i will try many times before I get it right, so all the challenges and mistakes in the beginning are all welcomed as important lessons I have to try to avoid making again. Many moms and dads out there have more demanding schedules, more kids and more stress- and I am sure they can do much more than what I try here- so I guess, we do what we can with the time we have...and we make time for it .
Long story short, If you WANT to learn how to make it- this could be ANYTHING you can think of, YOU WILL. You have to want it bad enough.

The answer to the "WHY do i do this "question-- well, have you ever had someone inspire you and encourage you to try to do something you have never done before, or try to be better at what you do -- I have been inspired by many people in this journey, in my past jobs, in my school life .. and I remember each one and what they said and how it impacted me.... when i got my first emails from youtube from people who told me that somehow, my story has prompted them to TRY something new- to possibly learn so they can have cash on the side- to learn so they can make something for their kids... I knew I could not stop ... I HAVE to share and pass it on.  So , in the little time I have, I try to answer emails, give tips I learned, recipes I had etc... bec it may help too, as much as others have been kind enough to teach me how to do it.

Oh... before I forget-- not having attended any class on decorating or being formally schooled on it , my work has been appreciated and evaluated by many people to be good... I would still love to have the opportunity to learn more about it.... but if YOU don't have time or money to go to school for it, don't worry, because we are here for you :) and there are many ways to learn. I get many thank you emails from people who have started businesses already from learning online... wish I could do that in the future too.
